Telephone country and area codes – Australian Government

Telephone country and area codes in Australia are regulated by the Australian Government. There are a number of different codes used across the country, and it is important to know which code to use when dialling a number. The area code for Victoria is 03, for example, while the area code for New South Wales is 02. When dialling a number within Australia, it is necessary to include the area code. If you are dialling a number from outside of Australia, you do not need to include the area code.
